Washington Housing:

Washington state is reporting the third highest rates of houselessness in our nation, behind only New York and California. According to the U.S. Housing and Urban Development's most recent annual report - released late December 2024 - 31,554 people in Washington state were recorded as experiencing homelessness in 2024. This is a 12.5% increase from the 28,036 reported in 2023. Axios Seattle reports that the methods used to count the houseless populations fall short of identifying the actual total.
Alaskan Housing:

Alaska's rental market is saturated with vacation rentals leaving local families struggling to find housing. It's important that communities have options for all members to thrive. The cost to rent in Alaska has increased by 24% since 2018. The National Low Housing Coalition shares, "Many of these households are severely cost burdened, spending more than half of their income on housing. Severely cost burdened poor households are more likely than other renters to sacrifice other necessities like healthy food and healthcare to pay the rent, and to experience unstable housing situations like evictions. Current numbers in Alaska show that almost 15,000 low-income renters have been unable to find housing in our state."
